NOTE: All descriptions refer to viewing cards/connections from the rear of the diagram
The right-most card in a rack is always the PSU/Microcontroller card
The remaining slots are used for interface cards. A single shift register (S/R) manages a pair of cards, so cards slots are paired - a master card (mandatory in the right slot) and an optional slave card in the left slot
Slot pins are numbered lowest towards the diagram, highest towards the human. Left column of pins on an individual slot are odd numbered, right column even numbered.
Left slot pins are numbered 1-40 (Top left=1, Top right=2). The bottom four pins are for the 24v power supply, meaning the left slot has 40 usable interface pins
Right slot pins are number 41-76 (Top left=41, Top right=42). The bottom four pins are for the 24v power supply, the next four pins for data, meaning the right slot has 36 usable interface pins.
If only one card of the pair is used, it must be the master, located in the right-hand slot, meaning 36 interface pins available, numbered 41-76; pin numbers 1-40 would be unused
Pairs of interface cards (more correctly the shift register managing the pairs of interface cards) are numbered from the right - the first pair of cards to the left of the PSU/Microcontroller is S/R 1.
Each Microcontroller(µC) is given a unique identifier - letter. Brixton is 'B', Walthamstow is 'W', for example.
To refer to an individual pin, you need the µC ID, the S/R (slot pair number) and the interface pin number from the slot pair (1-76)
A '1' switches the output pin on (Sinks current for NPN boards), and a '0' switches the output pin off.
